Abstract
Background. Dementia is characterized by a steady decline in memory capacity and increasing impairment of attention, language, comprehension and thinking skills, and orientation. By 2050, the number of dementia patients worldwide is expected to have tripled. Nevertheless, the quality of life of this group of patients should be maintained in the long term. This study aims to develop a sensory instrument that incorporates visual, tactile-haptic, and olfactory perceptions to stimulate the senses of people with dementia. The study investigates whether the use of the newly developed instrument can positively influence their well-being.
