Abstract:

Pleural effusion (PE) - is the accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity that occurs under the influence of various factors and is a symptom of more than 80 different diseases. As a diagnostic measure, the fundamental is the division of PE into exudate and transudate. Exudative pleural effusion is a manifestation of the inflammatory process in the pleural cavity, while transudative PE is a consequence of systemic disorders of the body. Transudative PE is most often encountered in patients with congestive heart failure, hepatic and renal failure, and especially in their terminal stages, as an indicator of the decompensation of the patient's condition. Thoracentesis procedures with PE evacuation are an effective way to relieve shortness of breath, since a large volume of fluid can cause symptoms of respiratory failure, aggravating the already serious condition of this category of patients. Chemical pleurodesis (CP) is a procedure aimed at deliberately burning the pleural layers to further obliterate them...
